Monel 400 (UNS N04400, NCu30)
The structure of Monel 400 alloy is a high-strength single-phase solid solution, which is the corrosion-resistant alloy with the largest amount, the most versatile and excellent comprehensive performance. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas media, and excellent corrosion resistance to hot concentrated alkali liquor. It is also resistant to corrosion by neutral solutions, water, sea water, the atmosphere, organic compounds, etc. An important feature of this alloy is that it generally does not produce stress corrosion cracking and has good cutting performance.

Corrosion resistance
The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives. At the same time, it is more resistant to corrosion in seawater than copper-based alloys.
▲ Acid medium: M400 is corrosion resistant in sulfuric acid with a concentration of less than 85%. The M400 is one of the few important materials for durable hydrofluoric acid.
▲ Water corrosion: M400 alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in most water corrosion conditions, and pitting corrosion and stress corrosion are rarely found. The corrosion rate is less than 0.25mm/a.
▲ High temperature corrosion: The maximum temperature of M400 continuous operation in air is generally around 600 °C. In high temperature steam, the corrosion rate is less than 0.026mm/a.
▲ Ammonia: Due to the high nickel content of Monel 400 alloy, it can withstand corrosion under anhydrous ammonia and ammoniation conditions below 585 °C.
Applications:
Making wire mesh demister; seamless water pipes and steam pipes in power plants; sea water exchangers and evaporators; sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid environments; crude oil distillation; pump shafts and propellers for use in seawater; nuclear industry for uranium production Equipment for refining and isotope separation; pumps and valves used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid equipment.
Monel K500 (UNS N05500)
In addition to its excellent mechanical properties such as high strength, corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, Monel K500 alloy also has the same corrosion resistance of Monel 400. It can be used as pump shaft material and is suitable for working under geological conditions of harsh high sulfur and high wax oil layers. Since the alloy has no plastic-brittle transition temperature, it is very suitable for various cryogenic equipment. This alloy is mainly used for pump shafts and valve stems, conveyor scrapers, oil well drill rings, elastic parts, valve pads and so on. Suitable for petroleum, chemical, shipbuilding, pharmaceutical, and electronic sectors.

The chemical composition of the alloy is generally the same as that of Monel 400. The biggest difference is that it contains 2.3-3.15% of A1 and 0.30-1.00% of Ti. The microstructure of this alloy is precipitated except for the dispersed Ni3 (A1, Ti) precipitate. The other is the same as the Monel 400 alloy.

Mechanical behavior
The alloy has no plastic-brittle transition temperature, so it is very suitable for the manufacture of various cryogenic equipment. Welding can increase the strength of the alloy, but reduce the plasticity of the alloy. Therefore, in order to maintain high plasticity, Monel K500 alloy needs to be heat treated after welding.

Corrosion resistance
Generally, the solid solution state of Monel K500 is basically the same as the Monel 400 alloy. Therefore, the corrosion resistance data of Monel 400 can be applied to the Monel K500 alloy. Due to the low corrosion rate of the alloy in flowing seawater and the high strength of the alloy, the alloy is particularly suitable for the manufacture of centrifugal pump shafts resistant to seawater corrosion.
